The Teaching and Learning Research Programme supports and promotes UK educational research with the goal of helping to improve outcomes for learners of all ages. Initial projects were funded from 2000 and there have been nine further phases so far. The programme is expected to continue to at least 2011. Over 60 specific projects cover many topics in all sectors across the lifecourse. We also fund extensive cross-Programme thematic work to ‘add value’ to these studies through analysis of common issues. There is a very strong commitment to user engagement and to combining practical use with high quality social science. Considerable efforts are made to engage with similar initiatives internationally. This award is for the coordination and enhancement of the wide range of investments made by TLRP, the total budget for which is some £35m. The Programme’s overall development is driven by six key elements of strategic commitment and activity. These are: - User engagement for relevance and quality
- Knowledge generation by project teams
- Knowledge synthesis through thematic activities
- Knowledge transformation for impact
- Capacity building for professional development
- Partnerships for sustainability
