The National Science Foundation (NSF) and the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC) - Ecology of Infectious Diseases
The ESRC and NSF wish to highlight a number of opportunities for both US and UK researchers in the area of the Ecology of Infectious Diseases. During 2009 ESRC is focussing its funding in this area on interdisciplinary capacity building. This is being done through an initiative across Research Councils on Environmental and Social Ecology of Infectious Diseases funded by the ESRC, Medical Research Council (MRC), Natural Environment Research Council (NERC) and the Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council (BBSRC). Details can be found on the Environmental and Social Ecology of Human Infectious Diseases (ESEI) page. This call would welcome applications with US colleagues named as collaborators. The NSF Ecology of Infectious Diseases Call remains open for the second year of this solicitation. No additional funds are available from ESRC for 2009. However, US PIs may request sub-awards to UK investigators as per NSFs usual procedures - Please see further details. US applicants to this call should contact the Program Manager, Dr Sam Scheiner (sscheine@nsf.gov) for advice on allowable costs for such a subaward. The ESRC intends to return as a funding partner in the NSF Ecology of Infectious Diseases call in 2010 in order to provide continued opportunities for UK and US investigators conducting collaborative social science research in this area.
