This project will explore a range of issues around young and older workers and is designed to be a follow up to a research project carried out at the University of Leicester between 1962 and 1964. The original research aimed to explore how young people adjusted to working life when they left school. The new study aims to re-analyse the original interview schedules and trace one quarter of the original sample so that their experiences and attitudes on working life can be collected. The data will then include information from the same respondents at both the start and approaching the end of their careers. The methodology encompasses several approaches. It will include a quantitative and qualitative analysis of the original interview schedules. We shall also conduct 200 qualitative interviews with members of the original sample. In addition we aim to supplement the data with a secondary analysis of some existing national data sets. The investigations will allow us to shed light on a series of aspects relating to labour market entry. We will also be able to document in detail individual experiences of work though the life course
