Welcome to the first newsletter from the ESRC-DFID Scheme's Strategic Advisory Team (SAT). The SAT was appointed in 2010 with the remit to work with projects to enhance the development impact of projects and the overall Scheme, and works very closely with the Scheme's funders, ESRC and DFID.

Call for Proposals: Evidence Synthesis Research Awards (ESRA)

ESRC and DFID are pleased to welcome applications to review and synthesise the research that has been funded under the ESRC-DFID Joint Scheme for Research on International Development (Poverty Alleviation) on the themes of social protection and food security. The deadline for applications is 20 April 2012.

ESRC-DFID Project Highlight: Call for submissions

This section of the newsletter will be used to highlight one of our current ESRC-DFID projects. If you would like to feature your project here, please contact Maeve Regan. Please see the ESPA Newsletters for examples of project highlights.

A workshop was held in London on 17 February 2012 for the PIs of Phase 2 projects. The workshop report (PDF), feedback document (PDF) and presentations are now available.

ESRC-DFID is on Twitter

Following a fruitful discussion about social media at the PI workshop, the Scheme now has a Twitter account, @ESRCDFIDpoverty. We will be highlighting outputs from the programme, funding opportunities and other relevant news.

Movi desktop video-conferencing

ESRC-DFID researchers and their partners now have access to Cisco's Movi desktop VC system.

HEFCE: Research Excellence Framework

The Higher Education Funding Council for England (HEFCE) has published the panel criteria and working methods for the Research Excellence Framework (REF).

CODESRIA Call for Proposals: Comparative Research Networks 2012

A new call for African scholars to collaborate on social science research has been made by the Council for the Development of Social Science Research in Africa (CODESRIA). Deadline is 15 June 2012.

ESRC Knowledge Exchange opportunities

This scheme provides the opportunity to apply for funding for knowledge exchange activities at any stage of the research lifecycle, to maximise the impact of social science research outside academia. The next call will run from 9 April to 5 June 2012. Full details are available from the ESRC website.
