Russian Industrial Development 1861-2011: A Case Study of the Oil Industry

Dr Nathaniel Moser's PhD, which evaluated the performance of the oil industry in Russia since its emergence in the 1860s up to the present-day, provided a rigorous re-interpretation of the challenges experienced by Russian industry generally and the oil sector in particular during the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. It used a theoretical framework derived from organizational and institutional economics and a research methodology consisting of both qualitative and quantitative techniques. The research contradicted several influential past academic findings about Russian industry, and presented strong evidence for alternative explanations.

The objective of this post-doctoral fellowship is to consolidate and develop Dr Moser's PhD research through providing for:

  • support in achieving top-ranked journal publications and a detailed monograph proposal

  • access to mechanisms and contacts appropriate for developing an extended network of expertise in this field

  • access to leading-edge training and skill development that will enhance my capacity to publish in the best international outlets

  • opportunity to disseminate findings to a diverse audience; support in developing a research grant proposal

  • engagement with a new teaching portfolio.
