TLRP: Embracing the faith, including the community?
In this chapter the author looks at selection by religion, and the effects this has on the relationship between schools and their communities. The study focuses in turn on a Catholic, an Anglican and an Islamic school and on representatives of their respective education coordinating bodies. The author discusses selection criteria and how these are modified when the composition of neighbourhoods change. He looks at the demand for Islamic schools and the reactions to their state funding. The chapter present snapshots of practice and opinion.
