Artists talk : social photography as art : the case of Russia
Alexandra Demenkova, a documentary photographer from St. Petersburg gave a talk (in English) on a collection of photographs that focused on social issues of everyday life, entitled ‘Social photography as Art: the Case of Russia’. Alexandra Demenkova (b1980) has been a documentary photographer since 2004. She has a number of award-winning series on social issues of everyday life, ranging from the homeless, migrant workers, asylums to ropewalkers, circus and street artists. Alexandra is currently artist in residence at The Royal Dutch Academy of Visual Arts.
