New directions : how languages promote research and internationalisation in higher education
This seminar is jointly organised by the Subject Centre for Languages, Linguistics and Area Studies and the Centre for Russian, Central and East European Studies(University of Glasgow). It focuses on the important role played by languages in research and internationalisation in higher education and will include sharing of practice round the following themes: • Challenges of research: why languages are important in Humanities and Social Science research • Access to primary sources and the impact of reliance on translations • Contribution of the UK language-based area studies centres to research capacity • Community outreach • Internationalisation • Student perspectives on language needs in research. There is no charge to attend this event for employees and postgraduate students of publicly funded UK higher educational institutions and other institutions with a subscription to the Higher Education Academy.
