Joint statement on impact by HEFCE, RCUK and UUK

22 July 2011

Research Councils UK (RCUK), the Higher Education Funding Council for England (HEFCE) and Universities UK (UUK) have issued a joint statement on impact, recognising the benefits from research and knowledge exchange, and committing to continued co-operation.

In the statement the organisations emphasise that the range of benefits from research are "broad and diverse". "The responsibility for achieving these outcomes is shared by both the funders of research and the higher education institutions where the research takes place. Therefore, these outcomes should be recognised and rewarded through funding mechanisms, career development and the management of research," the signatories say.

RCUK and HEFCE pledges to continue to develop common frameworks - including joined-up approaches to knowledge exchange, complementary funding policies, proportionate research evaluation, and support for training of new researchers.
