We live in a world that is increasingly characterised as full of risk, anger and threat. Every day a new social issue emerges to assail our sensibilities and consciences.

This first seminar in the series will examine some 21st century social issues and anxieties.

Keynote speakers:

  • Professor Erich Goode and Professor Nachman Ben-Yehuda - co-authors of Moral Panics the Social Construction of Deviance
  • Professor Angela McRobbie, author of Zoot Suits and Second-Hand Dresses and many other books on feminism and cultural studies
  • Professor Chas Chritchley, author of several books on the theme of moral panics and the media
