Strengthening public trust in scientific evidence

Location: The British Academy, London, SW1Y 5HW
Date and time: 31 October 2011 18.30-20.00

This event picks up on a challenge raised at a recent policy discussion with Government Heads of Analysis, the ESRC and the British Academy. In his closing comments, the Government’s Chief Scientific Advisor, Sir John Beddington, spoke of the need to address the levels of public trust in scientific evidence and the need to rethink pathways of communication between social science, government and the public. This event provides an opportunity to open up this conversation to a wider audience and explore ways in which the academic community and government can together ensure more effective communication of scientific evidence in the public arena. An expert panel of both social scientists and policy makers comes together to consider this challenge.
