What kinds of activities take place during the Festival?

From discussions and debates to exhibitions and on-line activities to outdoors activities, hands-on, arts and theatre the Festival is a diverse collection of events and activities aimed at the general public, young people, business and policymakers. For inspiration why not look at our archive of past events.

The Festival aims to deliver activities across the length and breadth of the UK, with many of those activities having a 'science in society' focus. By this we mean engagement and interactivity with the general public and new audiences in original and imaginative formats. In addition, an important element of the festival includes activities aimed at business and policymakers.

Aims of the ESRC Festival of Social Science include:

  • a week of activities celebrating the diversity of ESRC funded and social science research
  • to continue to have an even geographical spread of activities across the UK
  • to continue to increase the number events focussed on engaging the public and young people with social science research
  • to maintain a portfolio of events targeted towards business, policymakers and the third sector.
