Funding the best social science in the most efficient and effective way
The ESRC is committed to working towards effective and transparent arrangements for managing the increasing demand for its research funding. Our aim is to have fewer, high-quality applications so the best social science is funded in the most effective way. We can only do this with your help, working in partnership with the community and through self-regulation.
Based on our first evidence-gathering exercise with the social science community, we will be introducing an initial programme of measures of improved self-regulation and a change to our existing peer review practices and submission policies.
After 12 months of these initial measures we will review their effectiveness, to establish whether further steps need to be taken to manage demand. We very much hope that we will not need any additional measures. However, in case we do, we would welcome your views on the potential options. The deadline for responses was 16 June 2011.
