Professor Alan Walker, Director of the New Dynamics of Ageing research programme and Professor of Social Policy and Social Gerontology at the University of Sheffield, has been given one of the first awards by the European Region of the International Association of Gerontology and Geriatrics.

The award was for Advances in Gerontology and Geriatrics in the Social and Behavioural Sciences. Professor Walker was given the award "for excellence and achievements in the science of ageing and in recognition of the outstanding contribution to the development of gerontology in Europe".
